Rock County men hold off Fox Valley, women lose

UW-Rock County survived visiting UW-Fox Valley’s second-half surge to post a 66-56 victory in Wisconsin Collegiate Conference men’s basketball Monday.

The Rattlers held a 35-22 lead at the half. Fox Valley got within five points but could draw no closer in the second half.

Gabe Mitchell of Edgerton scored a season-high 29 points to keep UW-Rock on top. Cole Hulbert added 11 points and Keifer Cary chipped in 10 for UW-Rock.

UW-Rock (17-7, 8-4) will conclude the regular WCC season Saturday at UW-Marinette with a 3 p.m. game.

UW-Rock women lose

The UW-Rock County could not overcome second-half foul trouble and lost 56-44 to visiting UW-Fox Valley in Wisconsin Collegiate Conference women’s basketball Monday.

UW-Rock (4-15, 4-12) trailed 25-23 at the half, but lost momentum in the second half when two Rattlers fouled out.

Besides foul woes, the Rattlers shot 24 percent for the game, making 15 of 63 attempts from the floor.

Nicole Skillman, a Janesville Craig graduate, scored 17 points and grabbed 17 rebounds, while Tiffany Draeving scored 14 points before fouling out.

The Rattlers play Thursday at Fox Valley Technical College and Saturday at UW-Marinette to conclude the regular season.
