Lake Geneva Badger falls in Dubuque tournament
DUBUQUE, IOWA Lake Geneva Badger became Dubuque Hempstead’s first victim of the season in high school boys basketball here Saturday night.
Hempstead (1-16) hit eight three-point goals and edged the Badgers, 63-59, in Wendy’s Classic at Loras College.
Dubuque Senior also topped Madison La Follette, 70-57.
Badger (4-12) led 45-43 after three quarters, but Hempstead made six of eight field-goal attempts in the final period to pull out the victory.
With the Badgers trailing 59-57, two turnovers in the final 1:20 spoiled their chances for a winning rally.
Badger senior guard Justin Bowers took scoring honors with 25 points. Gage Hefferman and T.J. Johnson led the Mustangs with 18 and 16, respectively.
