Guard Brandon Schmidt found enough holes in the McFarland defense to give East Troy High some added breathing room in the Rock Valley North boys basketball race Friday night.


Schmidt hit several lay-ups en route to a 20-point game and led the visiting Trojans to a 65-51 victory at McFarland.


The North Division-leading Trojans (13-3, 10-1) dropped the Spartans (9-7, 6-5) four games back, but Evansville (9-8, 7-4) remained three behind by beating Whitewater.


Scot Beckwith added 13 points for East Troy, and teammate Brett Bouwman had 12.


Tyler Wedel led the Spartans with 28 points.

n Edgerton 50, Jefferson 43—Tyler Oren and Zach Nelson each scored 12 points to lead visiting Edgerton past Jefferson, giving the Crimson Tide its third straight Rock Valley win and a second straight season sweep of the Eagles.


The Tide (7-10, 5-6) outscored the Eagles 18-5 in the second quarter to take command with a 30-20 halftime lead.


Matt Vogel had eight points for Jefferson (3-12, 2-10).

n Evansville 53, Whitewater 50—The Blue Devils (9-8, 7-4) made 15 of 16 free throws in the fourth quarter to seal a victory over visiting Whitewater (7-9, 5-6) and regain undisputed second place in the Rock Valley North.


Evansville trailed 26-24 at the half, but Dylan Erickson made two three-point baskets in the third quarter to help put the Blue Devils up 34-32 after three quarters. Evansville built a 52-44 lead in the final period.


Casey Moseley scored 14 of his game-high 22 points in the first half for Evansville. Erickson and teammate Brian Lunde scored 13 points apiece.


Mike Gabbey led the Whippets with 190 points. Tony Bilderback and David Shears added 10 apiece.

?n Big Foot 61, Turner 52—Marcus Greben scored a career-high 32 points, including 15 in a wild fourth quarter, to lead the Chiefs (8-9, 7-4) past Rock Valley South rival Turner (10-6, 6-6).


The Chiefs broke away from 28-28 tie with a 33-24 advantage in the fourth quarter. They made 12 of 17 free throws during that stretch.


Greben, a 6-4 senior, made six of seven field-goal attempts in scoring 29 points in the second half. He had four three-point goals in the game and made eight of 10 free throws.


Alec McGreevy backed up Greben with 12 points for Big Foot, and D.J. Hill led Turner with 11.

n Parkview 68, Palmyra-Eagle 51—The Panthers held a 15-10 first-quarter lead over the Rock Valley South leaders, but the Vikings got rolling behind Nick Melton’s 10 points in the second quarter to take a 28-24 halftime lead.


Parkview (13-5, 9-3) finished off the Panthers with a 21-4 third-quarter advantage for a 49-28 lead.


Melton finished with a game-high 24 points and teammate Jay Naatz added 20 points. Ben Preuss scored 10 points for Palmyra-Eagle (1-16, 0-11).
