Whitson breaks beam mark in win

— Erika Whitson’s record-setting season continued Thursday night.

The Janesville Parker junior gymnast broke her own school record on the balance beam to lead the Vikings to a 127.425-108.975 Big Eight Conference win over the Madison East/Madison La Follette co-op team.


Parker, 4-2 in conference, finished first, second and third in all four events plus the all-around.


“Overall, I was pleased with the way we competed tonight,” Parker coach Cathy Lehmann said.


“And Erika really hit her beam routine. That was fun to watch.”


Whitson scored 9.30 on the beam to set the school record, and also won the vault, uneven bars, floor exercise and all-around.


Parker’s Emily Mauermann was second in three events plus the all-around.
