Mitchell, defense lead Rattlers to win, women lose

UW-Rock County breezed to a 73-42 victory over UW-Richland in Wisconsin Collegiate Conference men’s basketball Wednesday at Richland.

The Rattlers (14-7, 7-4) held Derek Thomas, the WCC’s top scorer, to six points. Thomas, who was in foul trouble, averages 24 points.

Gabe Mitchell, an Edgerton High School graduate, scored 26 points to pace UW-Rock. Fred Stewart added 15 points and 15 rebounds, while Keifer Cary, who defended Thomas, chipped in 12 points.

The Rattlers play at UW-Marshfield on Saturday at 1 p.m.

UW-Rock women lose

UW-Rock County suffered a 65-52 defeat to UW-Richland in Wisconsin Collegiate Conference women’s basketball at Richland on Wednesday.

Ashley Oldenburg scored 13 points and Kelsey Truttman added 12 points for UW-Rock (4-16, 4-14).

The Rattlers will host UW-Fox Valley next Monday at 7 p.m.
