— Amber Davis will play soccer for Western Illinois University.

The Milton High senior standout signed a national letter of intent on Wednesday with the Division I school located in Macomb, Ill. The Fighting Leathernecks finished 8-8-2 a year ago, including 5-3-1 in the Summit League and earned a berth in the postseason tournament.

Davis, a two-time, first-team All-Badger South selection as a forward, said the opportunity to play college soccer at the highest level made Western Illinois an easy choice.

“There were a couple of other schools I was interested in, including (UW) Oshkosh,” Davis said. “But when I made my one visit to Western, and got a chance to tour the campus and everything else, I knew that’s where I wanted to go.

“It’s a good program, and I’m looking forward to being a part of it next season. There are some good players coming in, and I hope I can contribute.”

Davis has excelled as a forward and hopes to play that position for the Fighting Leathernecks.

With the season around the corner, Davis hopes to end her prolific high school career by leading the Red Hawks to a Badger South title and a long run in the postseason.

“Even though I’ve signed, I still have to go out and prove myself and play just as hard,” Davis said. “I need to continue to work on my fitness and be in the best possible shape when I get to college.”
