Monroe denies Milton’s upset bid, other scores

Milton High came up short Tuesday night in its bid to upset Monroe in Badger Conference South boys basketball.


Bryan Tordoff went 8-for-8 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to lift the Cheesemakers to a 64-59 win.


Milton trailed by 14 points after three quarters but erupted for 32 points in the fourth. The Red Hawks (2-13, 1-7) cut the lead to 58-56 on Nate Hammon’s three-pointer with 32 seconds left, but the Cheesemakers held off the host Red Hawks from the free-throw line.


Kevin Frint paced the Cheesemakers (11-3, 6-2) with 18 points, while Michael Barrett added 16.


Brandon Knudtson and Brandon Farnsworth each had 11 points to lead Milton, which trailed 26-14 at half.

Edgewood connected on nine of 12 free-throw attempts in the fourth quarter, when the Crusaders outscored the Vikings, 17-9.
