— Steve Dinkel will direct the UW-Whitewater offense this upcoming football season.

Dinkel, a member of the Warhawk football staff for eight years, has been the offensive line coach and run game coordinator.

He replaces Jim Zebrowski, who left after three seasons on the Warhawks, to become quarterback coach at the University of Northern Illinois.

Prior to joining the Whitewater staff, Dinkel was the head football coach at Jefferson High School for 10 years. His Eagle teams went 60-36 and won a WIAA state title.

Dinkel will resign his position with the Jefferson School District and will assume an academic staff position at UW-Whitewater in addition to coaching football.

“Steve has been very dedicated and loyal to Warhawk football, essentially working two full-time jobs,” Warhawk coach Lance Leipold said.”There is a direct correlation between the success of Warhawk football the last five years and Steve’s work with the offensive line and run game.”

Fifteen Warhawk offensive linemen have earned first-team All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors. Eight of those linemen also earned All-America recognition.

The Warhawks are 89-16 during Dinkel’s coaching tenure. The Warhawks earned their second NCAA Division III title this past season, and have won the WIAC title five straight seasons.
