— The Janesville Bluebirds co-op hockey team slipped past the Waukesha co-op, 4-3, in the first round of the Joe Raymond Memorial Tournament here on Monday.

The Bluebirds’ Sean MacDougall scored with an assist from Brad Money at 14 minutes, 36 seconds of the second period to give the Bluebirds their sixth straight victory. MacDougall led the Bluebirds with two goals.

Janesville coach John Mauermann said the Bluebirds had difficulty knocking off the rust from a five-day layoff.

“We had a week off and fundementally we were not sharp,” Mauermann said. “We had a lot of excuses, but we did a few things right.’’

Mauermann credited goalkeeper Colin Cropp with making several saves in the third period to maintain the Bluebirds’ victory.

Janesville (6-2-1) faces Waukesha Catholic Memorial at 8 tonight in the second day of the three-day, eight team tournament.
