— Seven people were arrested Wednesday in Janesville after an extensive investigation into the illegal sale of prescription drugs in local neighborhoods.

Janesville police spent several months investigating drug trafficking and manufacturing in the city's Fourth Ward and Look West neighborhoods, according to a news release from the department.

Police executed search warrants at 210 Riverside Drive, 702 S. Washington St. and 220 S. Franklin St.

They found a large quantity of prescription pills, THC and drug paraphernalia, according to the release.

Police said they used the SWAT team to search the Riverside Drive home "because some of the residents are members of a criminal street gang with violent criminal histories." At the Washington Street address, detectives found THC in the toilet after residents there attempted to flush it, they said.

Those arrested Wednesday:

-- Apolinar Gonzales, 42, of 210 Riverside Drive.

-- Jean M. Rist, 34, of 210 Riverside Drive.

-- Derrick Reed, 34, of 702 S. Washington St.

-- Tamara L. Newland, 34, of 702 S. Washington St.

-- Jennette L Sage, 35, of 121 Willard Ave.

-- Rita A. Adams, 26, of 220 S. Franklin St.

-- Curtis W. Redmond, 29, 204 Cherry St.

They face various charges related to manufacturing and trafficking drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.
