— A Janesville man accused of having at least 20 child pornography videos on his computer is scheduled to appear in court Monday for a preliminary hearing.

State criminal investigators last week arrested Gerald A. Gardner Jr., 46, of 1419 St. Lawrence Ave., on five counts of felony possession of child pornography, according to a news release issued Wednesday by the Wisconsin Department of Justice.

Special agents from the Department of Justice joined Janesville police in searching Gardner's home Nov. 18. The state department had received information that a computer at Gardner's address was listed on a file-sharing network as containing child pornography.

Authorities confiscated three laptops, a digital camera and several data storage devices from his home, according to the news release.

Saved on one of the computers were 20 child pornography videos, investigators said. Some were more than 10 minutes long, and at least two of them included toddlers, according to the complaint.

Agents interviewed Gardner at his home after reviewing the computer. They said he admitted the videos were his, but said he didn't know it was illegal to watch child pornography through the Internet—only to possess videos or magazines, according to the complaint.

Gardner was downloading the videos through a file-sharing network, which he said he recently deleted because "there is too much stuff you can get on (there). A whole lot of temptation," according to the complaint.

Special agents said Gardner told them "a lot of it is curiosity," and he looked at it about once a week before deleting it, according to the complaint.

Investigators found 20 videos on the computer, but Gardner indicated there could be more than that, according to the complaint.
