Cesarz, Comets net first victory

Alana Cesarz and Delavan-Darien High School girls basketball team stepped into high gear Tuesday night for their first victory of the season.


Cesarz, an AP first-team all-state selection last season, scored 24 points, and the Comets got 21 from Emily Norris as the rolled to a 64-41 victory over Westosha Central by holding the Falcons to 10 points in the second half of a Souhern Lakes Conference game at Delavan.


Delavan-Darien (1-2, 1-1) overcame a 31-26 halftime deficit in a 15-6 third quarter. The Comets put the game out of reach in a 23-4 final period


Cesarz made nine of 12 field-goal attempts, including both of her three-point shots. Norris was 7-for-8 on free throws, and the Comets made 19 of 21 attempts from the line.


Randi Rederer had 12 points to pace Central (2-5,


0-2).

-- Elkhorn 54, Burlington 50—Emily Schahczinski scored 19 points to lead Elkhorn over host Burlington in a Southern Lakes Conference matchup.


Schahczinski was supported by Grace Ames, who had 16 points, and Allison White, who had 12 as the Elks improved to 2-0 in the Lakes.


Danielle Evert led the Demons with 18 points.

-- Wilmot 52, Waterford 46—Wilmot (3-2, 1-1) notched its first Southern Lakes victory under first-year coach Keiya Square by knocking off the host Wolverines (1-4, 0-2).


The Panthers locked up the victory ofa 15-11 advantage in the fourth quarter, during which they made 11 of 17 free throws. They were 20-for-34 from the line overall.


Kelli Hutchinson and Sarah Vozel eachj scored 12 points to pace Wilmot. Stephanie Rank had a game-high 20 for Waterford.
