A proposed raise for University of Wisconsin faculty and staff faces opposition from a local state representative.

Assemblyman Steve Nass of Whitewater says he's "disappointed" with the UW Board of Regents proposal to give faculty and staff a 2% raise each of the next two years. The Republican questions the wisdom of the proposal when the state is facing a more than $3 billion deficit. Nass places little value on the UW President's argument the increases are needed to remain competitive.

The proposal will need final approval from the legislature, and Nass is the incoming chair of the Assembly Colleges and Universities Committee.
