McFarland shuts down Brodhead, other scores

McFarland High School’s defense took its toll again in Rock Valley boys basketball.


This time, the Spartans dropped the lid on J.J. Panoske and Brodhead, 55-28, Thursday night in a key conference crossover matchup on the Cardinals’ court.


In holding a conference opponent below 30 for the second straight game, McFarland improved to 3-0 in the North to remain tied with Jefferson. Brodhead fell to 2-1 in the South and 2-2 overall


Panoske, who had scored 62 points in the first two conference games, was held to 12 by the Spartans. Brett Kaether scored 15 points, including three three-point goals, to help McFarland took control.


The Spartans led only 11-9 after the first quarter, but they were 22-13 by halftime and broke it open with an 18-4 advantage in the third quarter.


Tyler Wedel added 14 points to the winning total, and James Runde had 10.


J.J. Panoske led Brodhead (2-1 league) with 12 points.

-- Edgerton 50, Big Foot 32—Tyler Oren hit four three points, and Tyler Dobratz scored 17 point to spark Edgerton’s first victory of the season in a Rock Valley crossover game at Walworth.


The Crimson Tide (1-4, 1-2), which had lost three times by a total of 10 points, outscored Big Foot’s defending Rock South champions (1-3, 1-2) in every quarter. It was 23-16 at halftime and 40-29 after three quarters.


Oren finished with 12 points, while Bryan Colby led Big Foot with 11.

Tyler Tabor and Esau Ramirez each had 10 points to lead the Eagles, who are 4-1 overall.


Kyle Woodworth scored 18 points, and Hunter Copeland added 10 for Parkview (1-3 0-3).

-- Clinton 68, Whitewater 49—Four players scored in double figures to lead unbeaten to a Rock Valley crossover win over visiting Whitewater.


Ross Oldenburg led the way with 17 points. Aaron Roth added 16, Justin Langley had 14 and Cody Risseeuw scored as the Cougars (4-0) took the undisputed Rock South lead with a 3-0 record.


Clark Zinzow had 13 points, and Braidon Voss added 10 to lead the Whippets, who fell to 0-2 in the North and overall.

-- East Troy 65, Palmyra-Eagle 37—Tanner Plomb scored 22 points, and Nate Dodge added 19 as unbeaten East Troy rolled to a Rock Valley crossover win over Palmyra-Eagle.


East Troy, which improved to 2-0 in the North and 3-0 overall, built a 22-5 advantage in the first quarter and led comfortably the rest of the way.


Shane Houk scored 16 points, including two three-pointers, and Kevin McGiveren sank three three-pointers and finished with 13 points for Palmyra-Eagle (0-4, 0-3).
