Second-half problems for UW-Whitewater men, Beloit wins

A sloppy second half doomed UW-Whitewater’s men’s basketball team Wednesday night.


Dan Tilema and Jerrel Harris scored 15 points each to lead five players in double figures as defending NCAA III champion UW-Stevens Point pulled away for a 72-61 win over the visiting Warhawks in a key early-season WIAC game.


Whitewater (3-3, 1-2) led by eight at halftime but was outscored 45-26 in the second half. Stevens Point (5-1, 2-1) took the lead for good at 42-41 on Tilema’s basket with 14:46 left to play.


Alex Edmunds scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Warhawks. Antone Byrd added 13 for Whitewater, while D.J. Dantzler and Chris Davis had 11 points each.

Beloit earns big win


-- Beloit 62, St. Norbert 50—The Buccaneers, behind 21 points from David Bremner, evened their Midwest Conference record to 2-2 by pulling away from the Green Knights.


Beloit (2-4, 2-2) handed St. Norbert (5-1, 2-1) its first loss of the season.


Patrick Kenny and Edgerton High School graduate Travis Towns added 11 points each for the Bucs.


The Buccaneers pulled away at the free-throw line, making 24 of 31 attempts.
