Mitchell sparks Rattlers’ victory

Point guard Gabe Mitchell’s strong all-around game propelled UW-Rock County’s men’s basketball team to a 78-62 victory over UW-Baraboo on Monday night.

Mitchell had 16 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and four steals as the host Rattlers improved to 5-6 overall and 4-0 in the Western Division of the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference.

Bret Bates added 13 points, and David Harper and Jordan Conway each had 10 for Rock County.

Rattlers coach Scott Lee said Andy Hanus made three three-point shots within about three minutes in the second half to help Rock County pull away after Baraboo had rallied from a large early deficit.

Tyler Olson scored 19 points and Tom Mullin had 16 for Baraboo. Each sank four three-pointers.

UW-Rock County next plays on Saturday at home against UW-Marathon. The men’s game begins at 12:30 p.m., followed by the women’s game at 2:30.
