Warhawks take WIAC opener

— UW-Whitewater pulled away in the second half to defeat visiting UW-La Crosse, 73-60, in a WIAC men’s basketball opener here Wednesday night.

Whitewater’s Chris Davis made 10 of 17 field-goal attempts and went 2-for-2 from the foul line for a game-high 24 points. Antone Byrd added 19 points, and Alex Edmunds posted 16 for the Warhawks.


Whitewater led 37-36 at the half, then had a 36-24 advantage in the second half for the victory. The Warhawks produced a 13-6 rally through the final seven minutes.


Whitewater (3-1, 1-0) travels to UW-Stout on Saturday for a 4 p.m. game.
