— Mo McCrone was a one-man show Saturday afternoon for Janesville Craig’s boys soccer team.

The senior midfielder had a natural hat trick and added an assist to lead the Cougars to a 5-1 nonconference win over Wilmot.

Craig High (2-3) trailed 1-0 in the first half before rattling off five straight goals.

“That’s our next hurdle,” Craig High coach Charlie Friedrich said of eliminating his team’s slow starts. “We’ve got to stop getting behind the eight ball.

“In the second half, we’ve made the adjustments and controlled play in every game. Today’s game was no different. What I’m happiest about today is that we finished plays. That’s something we haven’t been doing.”

McCrone tied the game at 1-1 at the 34-minute mark of the first half and gave the Cougars the lead for good five minutes into the second half on an assist from Tyler Meinders.

Craig High is at Madison La Follette on Tuesday in a Big Eight Conference game.
