Janesville Parker swimmers have positive attitude
“We’re going to concentrate on individual achievement throughout the season, teamwork and a positive attitude,” Parker High coach Andrea Nickel said.
The Vikings have 25 varsity swimmers. Seniors Rachel Lancour, Frankie Larson and Samantha Witek are expected to lead the way.
“They’re good swimmers that we can put in more than one event,” Nickel said. “It helps to have versatility.’’
Lancour can swim the 500 and 200 freestyles and the 200 individual medley. Larson swims 100 breaststroke, 50 and 100 freestyles and 200 individual medley, while Witek is the Vikings’ top sprinter, along with Larson.
The Vikings rely on seven experienced juniors. All but one swam last year.
Sara Gosline swims the sprints, backstroke, breaststroke and 200 individual medley. Alexandria and Elizabeth Roehl swim breaststroke, backstroke and freestyle events.
Missy Holmes, Tess Husen and Amanda Lea can swim middle-distance events, along with Brianna Bradley. Kayce Chesebro is the newcomer and is a sprinter.
Sophomores include, Leslie Jones in the butterfly and backstroke, Elizabeth Tordoff in the sprints and individual medley, and Ruth Sodemann in a variety of strokes.
Adding to the Vikings’ depth are freshmen Rachel Perkins and Hailey Leisten. Nichel said each shows strong potential.
