Beloit Snappers fall at home

— The Beloit Snappers lost ground in their quest for a Midwest League baseball wild-card berth with a 4-3 loss to visiting Kane County on Wednesday night.

Myrio Richard pounded a two-run homer in the ninth inning off Snappers’ reliever Eliecer Cardenas. The loss drops the Snappers two games behind the Cougars in the wild-card race.


Beloit rolled to a 3-0 lead in the sixth inning on Daniel Rams’ solo home run for his 15th of the season. Kane County came back to cut the Snappers’ lead to 3-2 in the eighth.


In the ninth, the Cougars’ Mike Gilmartin reached on first baseman Mike Gonzales’ error with one out. After a strikeout, Richard hit his second home run of the season.


Cardenas (5-1) took his first loss, allowing three runs on three hits through the final


1 1/3 innings.
