— Several Rock County based fire departments are participating in a large scale, multi-state exercise in Chicago Thursday, August 26th.

Beloit Fire Department, Deputy Chief, Bryan Northrop, says the idea is to test the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) by running a simulated tornado breakout in Chicago. Fire Departments from Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Michigan will provide support.

The Beloit group consists of units and personnel from most of the fire departments in county.

Northrop says Beloit heads up what is called the Division 104 Task Force. They will leave Beloit around 8:30 Thursday morning and head to Elgin where they will stage for the exercise. Other task forces from Wisconsin will come from Kenosha, Milwaukee, and Racine.
