Janesville’s Behm, Milton’s Wieland open with 73s
Greg Fehrmann, an amateur from Rothchild, and pros Eddie Teresa of Waukesha and Jack Gaudion of Wales each carded a 3-under-par 67 to lead the field.
Janesville amateur Matt Behm and Milton club pro Kirk Wieland each fired 3-over 73 and are tied with 12 others in 44th place.
Behm, a three-time Janesville City Tournament winner, shot 1-under 35 on the front nine, but struggled on the back side with a pair of bogeys and a double bogey for a 4-over 38. Behm also made two birdies and 12 pars.
Wieland shot 2-over 38 on the front and 1-over 35 on the back nine, including a double bogey at No. 18. Wieland’s round included three birdies and two bogeys and two double bogeys.
Meanwhile, Mark Voeller, a Whitewater High School graduate, carded a par 70. Voeller rallied from 2-over on the front to 2-under on the back nine.
Voeller, of Waukesha, made 15 pars, two birdies and a double bogey for the day. Voeller was one of 10 players, including Richard Pfeil of Lake Geneva, to shoot even par.
Pfeil’s round included 10 pars, three birdies, four bogeys and a double bogey.
Lake Geneva’s Austin Gaugert carded a 6-over 76, and former Edgerton High standout Michael Hesselman had a 79. Eric Lorenzetti and Alex Gaugert, each of Lake Geneva shot 81 and 84, respectively.
