Rockford teen arrested after six cars crash
A Rockford teen is facing charges after apparently causing two consecutive crashes on the interstate Monday near Beloit.
Authorities say 19-year-old Earnest Sylvester Cromwell stopped in the left lane of westbound I-90 to use the emergency crossover. Three vehicles behind his van braked to avoid an accident but rear-ended each other. One person was treated for minor injuries and released from Beloit Memorial Hospital. State Patrol officials say the van then made an illegal u-turn into the eastbound lanes and struck two vehicles in a secondary crash. Cromwell and a passenger reportedly fled the scene. Both were apprehended and Cromwell was arrested.
Charges are pending upon further investigation. Authorities say alcohol was a factor in the crash.
