Split results for Janesville Craig and Parker tennis
Janesville Craig got off to a roaring start in its Big Eight Conference girls tennis opener Thursday.
Craig High swept visiting Beloit Memorial, 7-0, at Palmer Park.
“It was a good start to the conference season,” first-year coach Bill Peyer said. “It was a convincing win all the way around.”
The Cougars host a quadrangular at 9 a.m. today at Palmer Park. Kettle Moraine, Wauwatosa East and Madison La Follette provide the competition.

-- East 4, Parker 3—Janesville Parker coach Justin Long figured the final score of his team’s conference-opening match at Madison East would be 4-3.
The wrong team ended up with the 4.
The Purgolders edged the visiting Vikings with the teams splitting the four singles matches, and East winning two of the three doubles matches.
“This was one of the big matches on our schedule, so to lose is disappointing,” Long said.
A bright spot for Parker was the play at No. 3 singles by freshman Becky Harmata. She dropped the first set, 6-4, then rallied to beat Karley Bolz by scores of 6-4, 6-1.
Parker’s No. 1 doubles team of Maddie Theisen and Kristin Zielinger also rallied after losing its first set, 6-0. Theisen and Zielinger won a tiebreaker to take the second set and then won the third set, 6-4.
“The way they fought their way back was good to see,” Long said.
