— UW-Rock County is expecting to welcome a record number of students next month.

Applications for admission to UW-Rock County are 6 percent ahead of last year’s record pace, the college reported.

The campus on Janesville’s south side had received 967 applications as of Monday. Officials predict the final count will be around 1,200.

Classes start Sept. 2, but UW-Rock, unlike many other colleges, takes applications through the first week of classes.

UW-Rock recommends applying as early as possible for the best class selection. Some popular courses already are closed.

Tuition at UW-Rock County has been frozen for four years. Tuition for two semesters is $4,268. That is $3,665 less than UW-Madison, $3,001 less than UW-Milwaukee and $1,391-$2,541 less than the 11 other four-year comprehensive UW universities, which all had 5.5 percent tuition increases for 2010.

For information about applying to UW-Rock or to meet with an advisor, contact student services at (608) 758-6565, Ext. 200.
