The Rock Aqua Jays scored the highest in sound crew and pick-up boat driving. They also took third place in the team jumping competition.
Aaron Schoelzel and Amanda Schultz took first place and Matt Klay and Bryanne Barkley took second in individual doubles.
Jaclyn Kumlien placed sixth in swivel.
Tournament highlight: The Rock Aqua Jays were only able to practice four times leading up to nationals because of high water on the Rock River, yet the team was ready to compete.
“I think that we have never been so prepared going into a national tournament,” said Dave Rezin, co-show director. “We were hitting on all cylinders.”
Unfortunately, a 25 mph wind caused whitecaps on the day the Rock Aqua Jays skied. Other teams had perfect water.
“It was difficult to ski in those conditions,” Rezin said.
Quote of the day: “We were still able to come within 15 to 20 points of winning the national championship, but unfortunately, we couldn’t get it done,” Rezin said. “Although we did a good job, there are no moral victories for us.”
The team wanted to get first place, he said, and it wanted to win for Janesville.
