— The Gun Club restaurant, a popular and long time Beloit eatery, was famous for its food and is now a popular spot for the curious.

The restaurant burned to the ground Saturday, and by the time the Rock County Sheriff's Office re-opened the road in front of the ruins, the "rubber-neckers" were already lined up. Town of Turtle fire chief, Tim Huffman, says thousands of cars had passed by the scene by Sunday night. Some local residents brought lawn chairs and video recorders and spent the day Sunday watching investigators sift through the rubble.

The sheriff's office was so concerned about the fire scene being disturbed, they've placed a deputy at the scene to keep people out. The state fire marshal's office is working with Town of Turtle investigators to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
