— An Edgerton man was killed early Saturday after his car crashed head-on into a truck west of Edgerton, the Rock County Sheriff’s Office reported.

At 6:27 a.m. Saturday, Rock County sheriff’s officers responded to a report of a head-on traffic crash on Highway 59 just east of North Casey Road, four miles west of Edgerton.

According to an investigation by the Rock County Sheriff’s Office, Rodney Kellner, 40, of Edgerton was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt eastbound on Highway 59. He was traveling in the oncoming lane when a truck with an attached trailer carrying a skid loader driven by Thomas Fletcher, 36, of Delavan came out of a blind curve.

Kellner attempted to steer his car back into the eastbound lane, and Fletcher attempted “evasive action.” The vehicles collided nearly head-on in the center of the road, the sheriff’s office said.

Kellner was ejected during the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by a deputy coroner from the Rock County Coroner’s Office, the sheriff’s office said. Fletcher was treated at Edgerton Hospital for non-life threatening injuries and was transferred to UW-Hospital in Madison.

Kellner’s car, which sustained heavy front-end damage, was found in the north ditch and Fletcher’s truck was in the south ditch, the sheriff’s office said.

Highway 59 was closed for four hours during an investigation of the crash.

Neither Kellner nor Fletcher had been wearing a seat belt.

Alcohol did not appear to have played a role in the crash, the sheriff’s department said.
