Allyssa Ferrell shares 23rd place

— Edgerton’s Allyssa Ferrell shot a 4-over-par 76 in the second round here Wednesday to stand among the top 25 in the girls division of the U.S. PGA Junior Championship at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Sycamore Hills Golf Club.

After opening with a 77 on Monday, the Michigan State University recruit heads into today’s final round of the rain-shortened tournament with a 9-over-par 153 total to share 23rd place.

Kyle Roig of Puerto Rico is the girls leader with a 2-under-par 70-72—142.

When play resumed Wednesday after a Tuesday rainout, Ferrell had a round of 11 pars, two birdies, four bogeys and a double bogey.

Meanwhile, Oliver Schniederjans shot a second-round 3-under 69 to head into the final round as the boys leader.

At nine under for the tournament, the 17-year-old native of Powder Springs, Ga., is three strokes ahead of Denny McCarthy of Burtonsville, Md. He shot a 66 in the second round.

First-round leader Justin Thomas of Goshen, Ky., shot a 75 and is among four players tied for third place at four under.

After play was canceled Tuesday, the tournament was shortened to 54 holes and the field was cut after Wednesday’s rounds to the top 33 and ties for both boys and girls.
