Janesville Parker's Knutson grinds out victory
Matt Knutson’s victory at No. 1 singles was the highlight for Janesville Parker High School’s boys tennis team in a 6-1 loss to Verona in a Big Eight match here Thursday.
Knutson defeated Alex Boomgarden, 6-2, 6-3, after dropping a close three-set match Tuesday against Madison West.
“He came out and took it right to him,” Parker coach Mike Fuhrmann said. “He played extremely well against one of the better No. 1s in our league. He played a very offensive game.”
Fuhrmann also praised his doubles teams.
“Our doubles teams are playing really, really well,” Fuhrmann said. “They all played much better than they did Tuesday.”
The match started out in windy conditions. Winds were so strong that three nets broke and had to be repaired.
The Vikings, 1-3 in the Big Eight, will be at Sun Prairie on Tuesday.
