Janesville Craig High School’s girls soccer team battled fourth-ranked Madison Memorial even for most of the game Thursday night, but the visiting Cougars could not overcome a slow start.

Memorial scored twice in the first seven minutes of the game en route to a 3-0 Big Eight Conference win.

“We came out a little bit soft to start the game. But after that, I was really proud of the way we played,” Craig coach Bill McCabe said. “Memorial’s a very nice team.

“As long as we continue to get better and work hard, which we’re doing, we’re going to be OK.”

Amanda Hamilton made 13 saves for Craig (5-6-2, 2-2).

The Cougars host Middleton on Tuesday night and play at Janesville Parker next Thursday night.
