Whitewater Warhawks enjoy hit parade

— UW-Whitewater feasted on UW-Oshkosh pitchers to the tune of 35 runs on 36 hits to notch a doubleheader sweep in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference baseball Wednesday at Prucha Field.

The Warhawks routed the Titans, 22-6 in seven innings in the first game and took the nightcap 13-6. The first-place Warhawks improve to 17-3 in the WIAC and 29-4 overall.


In Game 1, Whitewater jumped to a 7-0 lead in the first inning and led 12-3 after three innings. Whitewater added five runs in the fourth, a run in the fifth and four in the fifth to close out the Titans.


Whitewater had 21 hits, eight for extra bases, including Jeff Donovan’s ninth home run. Janesville Parker graduate Matt Beyer ripped a two-run triple in the first, a two-run single in the second and run-scoring triple in the sixth to pace Whitewater.


Warhawks’ starter Riley Tincher (10-0) allowed four runs on nine hits through five innings to gain the victory.


In Game 2, the Warhawks pounded out 15 hits, including home runs from Jordan Stine, Dan Putnam and Beyer. Stine and teammate Ben Kuhlmann had three hits each and combined for five runs scored and four RBIs.


Whitewater starter Jason Hooper (4-2) allowed four runs on six hits to notch the victory.


The Warhawks wrap up the WIAC schedule with doubleheaders at UW-Superior on Saturday and Sunday. The regular season will conclude Sunday, May 9, with a nonconference doubleheader against Concordia University at home beginning at 1 p.m.
