Cougar girls, boys gain sweep of Spartans

Allie Wirkus and Katie Bagley each won two events as Janesville Craig defeated Madison Memorial, 91-50, in Big Eight Conference girls track and field Tuesday.


Meanwhile, the Craig boys won all three relays en route to an 80.5-60.5 victory to make it a sweep over the Spartans.


Wirkus won the long jump and anchored the winning 400-meter relay team. Bagley won the 100 and was on the winning 1,600 relay team.


Coach Mark Marsden praised freshman Jessica Washington, who cleared 9 feet in the pole vault.


Craig (2-1 in Big Eight) hosts the Cougar Relays Friday night.

Craig boys rule relays

Cy Badertcher and Tommy Meister were double winners in individual events, while the Cougars won all three relays.


Bryce Loveland, Drilon Grajcevci, Nick Gorman and Badertscher combined to win the 400 relay (45.2). Jesse DaVila, Grajcevci, Gorman and Michael Whitaker won the 800 relay (1:39.7) and Joe Sarow, Calvin Coleman, Alex Crandall and Jon Condon won the 1,600 relay (3:37.0).
