— Janesville Parker baseball coach Brian Martin summed up the Vikings’ 7-6, eight-inning Big Eight Conference loss to Madison La Follette on Thursday after looking at one key statistic.

Parker left 11 runners on base—eight in scoring position—while La Follete stranded seven, including three in scoring position.

“They were a little more successful in the clutch than we were,” said Martin.

Parker led 6-4 in the sixth inning before La Follette’s Taylor Carlson hit a leadoff home run, and Tony Grannis later added an RBI single to tie it.

The Vikings threatened to score in the top of the eighth, with runners at second and third with two outs. But a strikeout ended Parker’s hopes to score.

In the bottom of the eighth, La Follette drew consecutive walks after two outs. Jon Dybevik grounded a 3-2 pitch between short and third, then beat the throw at first as Griffin Lefeber scored from second for the winning run.

“If it’s not a full count, they don’t score,” Martin said.

Dybevik, the last of three La Follette pitchers, threw the final two innings to pick up the victory.

Josh Garcia, in relief of starter Tyler Teubert, took the loss.

Parker (4-5 overall, 3-4 in Big Eight) next plays at 5 p.m. Tuesday against Madison Memorial at Riverside Park.
