Janesville lacrosse falls to Waunakee

— Janesville got on the board first, but then Waunakee showed why it is the defending state lacrosse champion at Optimist Park on Thursday.

Darien St. Michael gave Janesville a 1-0 lead before Waunakee outscored Janes-ville 9-2 in the first half en route to 17-7 Madison Area Lacrosse Association victory.

St. Michael finished with three goals and an assist for Janesville (1-4 MALA White Division, 1-5 overall). Mitch Miller added two goals, Sean MacDougall a goal and and three assists, Aaron Turk a goal and Taylor Haney an assist. Janesville goalie Ryan Johnson had 14 saves.

The Waunakee JV won, 8-0.

The Janesville varsity travels to Brookfield to take on Heritage Christian at 5:30 p.m. today. The JV is off until Tuesday, when it hosts the Madison Memorial JV at 5 p.m. at Optimist Park.
