— Janesville Craig girls soccer soccer Bill McCabe called Thursday’s 8-1 Big Eight Conference loss to Madison La Follette a learning experience.

The high-scoring duo of Morgan LaPlant (four goals) and Sydney Temple (three goals) led the way for the Lancers, who scored the game’s first five goals.

“They’re all-conference, they’re all-state caliber,”

McCabe said. “What they do is they’re constantly working for the ball. They’re hard to mark.”

La Follette handed Craig

(4-4 overall, 2-1 Big Eight) its first league defeat of the season.

Sarah Ziegler scored Craig’s goal at 35:35 of the first half on an assist from Michaela Holzhuter.

Cougars goalkeeper Amanda Hamilton recorded 11 saves.

“She’s had nothing but shutouts this year,” McCabe said. “This gave her an opportunity to see what it’s like to play a team of this caliber.”

Craig will host a quadrangular tournament beginning today. The Cougars’ first game is set for 5 p.m. against Elkhorn.
