Kerry Storbakken is no stranger to the Janesville Craig High girls basketball program.

Now he is the new head coach.

Storbakken has served as the sophomore coach and assistant head coach under Mark Marsden for the past four seasons.

Marsden resigned from the head coaching position last month.

Storbakken has been in coaching for 19 years.

“You’re going to see a lot of 84 feet,” Storbakken said Tuesday night. “We’ll have a lot of pressure, and a lot of fast breaks.

“We’ll play a lot of man,” he said. “You look at Verona, Middleton and Parker. They all come at you with a tough man defense.

“We’ll stress fundamentals. We’ll take of the ball and try to get a shot in every possession. It will be fun.”

Storbakken started his coaching and teaching career at Craig High, working as the freshman girls coach from 1992-95.

He moved to Parker High in 1996, serving as the freshman girls coach there.

Storbakken then returned to Craig in 1997, where he was the junior varsity/sophomore girls coach for three more seasons.

Storbakken left Craig to take over the Milton High girls program in 2000.

He led the Red Hawks to regional championships in 2004, 2005 and 2006, and earned an overall record of 74-58, before he was let go.

Storbakken returned to Craig to coach the sophomore girls team. His teams amassed a 66-15 record, including a perfect 21-0 record this past season.

“I’m excited,” Storbakken said. “I’m ready to go. I’ve been there and done that, and the kids know what to expect.”

Storbakken discussed the job opening with his family before he submitted his application.

“It was a family decision,” Storbakken said. “It was not just a Kerry Storbakken decision.”

Storbakken said he will get his potential players to get in summer leagues, and he also has to hire a staff.
