— A Janesville woman on her way to a funeral was killed in an auto accident over the weekend, two Illinois newspapers reported Monday.

The McLean County coroner identified the woman as Birdie M. Shaw, 61, of Janesville, according to the Peoria Journal Times and Rockford Register Star.

The newspaper reported Shaw was a front-seat passenger in an SUV that was headed south on Interstate 55 just north of McLean on Sunday morning when the right rear tire came off and the driver lost control.

Shaw was reportedly thrown from the vehicle. Seven other occupants of the same vehicle were taken to Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Normal.

The SUV was in a three-car group that was traveling from Rockford, Ill., to St. Louis for a funeral, the newspaper said.
