— Janesville Parker’s baseball team felt right at home Thursday night at Miller Park.

The Vikings pounded out 10 hits in a 10-1 nonconference win over Portage.

After playing the past four seasons at the Metrodome in Minneapolis—former home of the Minnesota Twins—Parker got to run around on the home field of the Milwaukee Brewers.

“It was awesome,” said Parker shortstop Tyler Teubert, who was 2-for-3, including a triple that bounced high off the wall in left field. “To be able to play where the pros play, and with the roof open, was amazing.

“I think we all had to calm ourselves down early on. There were a lot of (Parker) fans here, and when you looked around and realized where you were and where you were playing, that made you even more nervous.”

Parker got rid of any nerves with a two-run first inning. Matt Fiedler drove in Teubert with an RBI double, and Jake Welch followed with an RBI single to score Fiedler.

Teubert tripled in Tanner Moe in the second inning before the Vikings (3-1) blew the game open with five runs in the fifth. Josh Garcia, Welch and Taran Kobs had RBIs in the fifth.

Sam Fischer’s two-run pinch-hit single in the sixth concluded the scoring for Parker.

“I was just excited about tonight as the kids were,” Parker coach Brian Martin said. “To watch those kids get so excited to be able to play here, and then play well, made it a very special night for Parker baseball.

‘Our pitchers were outstanding, we played well defensively, we swung the bats well, and the fans that made the trip over here were awesome. We couldn’t have asked for a better night.”

Parker will host Verona in a Big Eight Conference doubleheader Saturday at 11 a.m. at Riverside Park.
