Warhawks’ Hooper throws no-hitter

— Jason Hooper was all UW-Whitewater needed to complete a doubleheader sweep of UW-Stout in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference baseball here Sunday.

Hooper (3-0) notched eight strikeouts and walked three en route to a no-hitter as the Warhawks defeated the Blue Devils 5-0 in Game 2. Whitewater won the opener 10-3.


Whitewater improves to


6-0 in the WIAC and 18-1 overall. The Warhawks are ranked third in the American Baseball Coaches Association poll.


Hooper became the first Warhawk pitcher to toss a no-no since Todd Genke’s stopped Carroll College in April 2008.


Hooper walked the second batter of the game then retired the next 13 batters before issuing his second walk. He send down the next nine before posting his third walk and finished the Blue Devils in the ninth to complete the no-hitter.


On Saturday, Hooper picked up his second victory as Whitewater hammered Stout 21-6 in seven innings.


Jeff Donovan drove home Jordan Stine in the third inning for the only run Hooper would need. Ben Kuhlman added a three-run bases-loaded double in the seventh and Ryan Leavitt ripped an RBI single to close Whitewater’s scoring.


Hooper has worked 29.2 innings, allowing 18 hits and five runs. He has 33 strikeouts and has walked eight for a 1.52 earned run average.


In Game 1, the Warhawks scored five runs in the fourth inning to take a 6-1 lead. Matt Beyer and Mike Kenseth each drove in two runs and Stine added an RBI. Rob Coe went


3-for-3 with an RBI.


Kyle Lee (4-0) pitched


3 2/3 innings in relief of starter Riley Tincher to earn the win.
