Load falls off truck, killing man

— An Illinois man died Wednesday after the load of a semitrailer truck fell onto a parked sport utility vehicle on Interstate 90/39 near Stoughton.

A broken-down semitrailer tractor was pulled over near Church Road in the westbound lane of I-90, according to a news release from the Wisconsin State Patrol.

The trucking company brought a replacement tractor, which was hitched to the trailer.

The tractor and trailer were not hooked up properly. When the tractor started to pull away, the container fell off the trailer onto a legally parked vehicle.

The 60-year-old male driver of the SUV from Reddick, Ill., was pinned and died from his injuries.

A 40-year-old female passenger was transported to University Hospital, Madison, with non-life-threatening injuries, the release states. The news release did not identify the city where she lives.

The accident still is under investigation. The semitrailer truck driver, a 41-year-old Illinois man, had not consumed alcohol, the release states.
