Coroner debate returns to Rock County Board
The Rock County Board's Public Safety and Justice committee is not convinced the county should change from a coroner system to medical examiner system.
The committee voted 3-2 against a resolution Wednesday abolishing the coroner's office. The full county board will discuss the matter at its regular meeting Thursday.
Committee members only briefly discussed their thoughts after hearing from citizens at the meeting. Mary Beaver and Hank Brill voted in favor of the resolution. Larry Wiedenfeld, Ivan Collins and Brian Knudson are opposed.
The county board has voted on the topic multiple times in the past. If approved, a medical examiner would start work January 3, 2011.
