— The Wisconsin Knowledge and Concept exam scores are out and Beloit kids are making gains.

Executive Director for Educational Programs in Beloit, Steve McNeal, says 21 out of 23 areas showed improvement. The rate of improvement ranged from 5% to 21% according to McNeal.

When compared to state averages, McNeal says Beloit is still testing below standards, but the gains that are being made are the result of a three year program specifically aimed at bringing the scores up. McNeal predicted by next year, most Beloit kids will be testing at or above the state average.

The WKCE gauges the knowledge of third, eighth, and tenth graders in the core areas of math, science, language arts, and social studies.
