Two people are vying to represent Geneva Township on the Badger High School Board.

The incumbent, who has served on the school board for 18 years, is seeking re-election. She faces a challenge from a man who says controlling taxes is his primary concern for the district.

They are:

Janet M. Giovannetti (I)

Age: 60

Address: W3803 Kelly Road, Lake Geneva.

Job: Real estate broker associate, Keefe Real Estate, Lake Geneva.

Education: Bachelor's degree in education, Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill., 1972; associate degree in accounting, Gateway Technical College, Elkhorn, 1994.

Community service: none

Elected posts: Badger High School Board member, 1992-present.

Major campaign issues: (The school board) will continue to set effective policies, hire exceptional personnel, provide a safe environment and remain fiscally responsible. With this foundation, I will continue to look for ways to raise the bar to improve student achievement.

Tom Larwa

Age: 48

Address: N3145 Center St., Lake Geneva.

Job: Regional sales director, InPro Corporation, Muskego.

Education: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Michigan Technological University, Houghton, Mich., 1983; master's degree in business administration, University of Baltimore, Baltimore, 1992.

Community service: none

Elected posts: none

Major campaign issue: With Lake Geneva experiencing uncertain economic conditions, the board will face challenges that require a fresh perspective to maintain the standard of excellence the area has come to expect. Of particular concern is how to control the citizens' tax burden while maintaining Badger's academic reputation, student programs and facilities.
