— A Janesville man accused of beating and choking the mother of his child Tuesday night remained in custody Wednesday at the Rock County Jail.

Janesville police arrested Darrin Kidd Jr., 26, of 2803 Woodlane Drive, Janesville, at his home on charges of strangulation, domestic battery and failure to comply with attempts to take him into custody, Sgt. Aaron Ellis said.

Kidd made threats he’d shoot police if they came in to get him, Ellis said.

After police established phone contact, Kidd refused to come out. So officers obtained a search warrant, entered the residence and took Kidd into custody. They found a handgun in the home, Ellis said.

The woman refused medical treatment after the incident, Ellis said.

The couple and their baby live with Kidd’s brother and his brother’s girlfriend. They had not been getting along, and an argument escalated when the woman was asked to move out.

Kidd filed a complaint with police early Wednesday morning, claiming his girlfriend broke the windows out of his vehicle, which police confirmed, Ellis said.
