Janesville Craig High School’s girls cross country team dominated the Big Eight Conference Challenge on Tuesday at Sheehan Park in Sun Prairie.

The Cougars had the top four runners to finish with 17 points and easily win the five-team meet. Sun Prairie was second with 53, while Janesville Parker was fourth with 90.

Craig’s boys finished second to Sun Prairie, while the Parker boys were fourth.

Jessie Finnane won the 4,000-meter girls race in 15:52 to pace the Cougars. Regina Griffith was second, Teryn Bordwell third, and Megan Muhs fourth.

“The best thing out of the girls race was that our top five runners were only separated by 22 seconds,” Craig co-head coach Brian Lawton said. “That’s what we’ve been preaching all year.

“And our boys just ran a nice, consistent race after a really challenging Midwest Invitational last Saturday. It was a good day for both teams.”

Taran Kobs finished fifth to pace the Parker boys, while Sadie Johnson was 12th to lead the Parker girls.

Craig will run in the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational on Saturday at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course at University Ridge in Madison. Parker will be in the Stoughton Invitational.
