— The wind howled across UW-Rock County’s soccer pitch, but the Rattlers forged a 5-0 victory over a fledgling UW-Richland in nonconference soccer on Monday.

Janesville Craig graduate Tanner Harrie scored at 14:57 to lead the Rattlers as UW-Rock improved to 5-2-2.

UW-Richland entered soccer competition last season as a club team and played a smaller schedule. This season, Richland is playing a full schedule, but not as a competing member in the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference.

“The conditions were horrible,” UW-Rock coach Grant McNall said. “There was a 20-to-30 mph wind blowing straight across the field.’’

Richland played with a 10-man roster to compound the wind problem.

The Rattlers will travel to UW-Waukesha on Thursday.
