— Rock County will offer a Clean Sweep drop-off from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Rock County Public Works garage, 3715 Newville Road.

Rock County residents and eligible Wisconsin businesses may dispose of hazardous waste material.

Acceptable items include pesticides, solvents, thinners, wood preservatives, photographic chemicals, pool chemicals, vehicle fluids and other waste. Chemicals should not be mixed.

Place fragile containers in clear, sealed bags. Oil paint will not be accepted until the Clean Sweep for 2010.

Latex paint or other water-based materials, high-pressure cylinders, Freon, infectious or biological wastes, explosives, detonators, blasting caps or radioactive material will not be accepted.

Call the Rock County Health Department at (608) 757-5441 if you have unwanted medications.

Households and farms may bring one small recycling bin or the equivalent for free, two bins for $5 or three bins for $10.

Large loads of four or more bins, unknown chemicals and barrels must call the Rock County Land Conservation Department at (608) 754-6617, Ext. 3, before Friday, Oct. 2, for details and pricing.

Businesses, schools or other agencies that produce or store less than 2,200 pounds of waste per year will pay only for the cost of the disposal, not a mobilization fee.

Ag chemicals from those businesses may receive up to 50 percent off the disposal cost.

Visit co.rock.wi.us or call the Rock County Land Conservation Department for a registration form or to receive a free quote.
