Waterford High’s defending co-champions continued to show their strength in Southern Lakes football Friday night.

The visiting Wolverines rushed 54 times for 374 yards and rolled over Delavan-Darien, 36-14, to go 3-0 in the conference and 5-0 for the season.

Waterford build a 24-0 lead through three quarters before Zachery Neiger got the Comets (2-3, 1-2) on the board with a 72-yard touchdown run. Neiger also scored on an 83-yard kickoff return after the Wolverines had grabbed a 30-7 lead.

Zach Fischer scored Waterford’s first touchdown on a 4-yard run, then threw 46 yards to Beau Steffens for the second score. Steffens also scored on 79- and 1-yard runs, and he finished 142 yards in 14 rushing attempts.

Neiger had 90 yards in 12 carries.

Burlington 28, Elkhorn 0—The visiting Demons (3-2, 2-1) pushed across a touchdown in each quarter to overpower Elkhorn (1-4, 1-2) in a Southern Lakes game.

Kevin Caufield raced 71 yards for a touchdown on the third play of the game to put Burlington ahead for good. That completed a three-play, 81-yard drive with 10:49 left in the first quarter.

The Demons doubled their lead on Eric Dankle’s 11-yard touchdown pass to Jared Francois with 50 seconds left in the field half. That capped a 76-yard drive.

Elkhorn, which was held to two first downs, 18 yards rushing and 13 passing, never threatened.

Caufield, a 5-9, 147-pound junior, led Burlington’s 298-yard ground game with 14 carries for 137 yards.
