WCLO's Steve Benton reports on the August jobless rates for local some communities

RSS

— The unemployment numbers are getting better for most Wisconsin communities but there's a long way to go according to state labor officials.

Chief Economist for the state Department of Workforce Development, Dennis Winters, says Rock County's jobless rate fell from 12.8% in July to 12% in August while Janeville's rate fell from 14.1% to 13%. Beloit also saw some improvement but continued to lead all cities in the state with 17.4%. Beloit's July rate was even higher at 17.7%.

Winters says it appears the worst is over but there's still not enough information to show a trend toward a recovery.
